Kelly McCoy Teaching: Mandolin, Guitar, and Bass |
Kelly is 17-years-old and has been playing bluegrass since she was 11-years-old. Kelly has always been exposed to bluegrass music ever since she was born. At age 2-years-old in her car seat, she would sing along to Alison Krauss cassette tapes. Her parents always took the girls to see bluegrass acts, including a couple visits to the Grand Ole Opry and even the Gaithers' Homecoming Gospel show at a young age. When Kelly was in the sixth grade, she started taking fiddle lessons, but then switched to mandolin two months later. In her first year of playing, she also learned how to play the guitar, then expanded her talents to the banjo and the bass. On March 28, 2008, she acheived her life-long dream and sang on stage with her long-time hero, Rhonda Vincent, who Kelly's voice is always compared to. Kelly provides lead & tenor vocals, and mandolin, guitar, and banjo work for the band. She has also composed many orginal songs that the band performs. Some of Kelly's influences are: Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Bill Monroe, Doyle Lawson, Jimmy Martin, the Osborne Brothers, Alison Krauss, and Ricky Skaggs. Kelly has sang on stage as a special guest with Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Honi Deaton & Dream, Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Bobby & Dean Osborne, James King, Sammy Adkins & the Sandy Hook Mountain Boys, Vince Combs & Shadetree Bluegrass, The Dixie Ryders, and Joe Isaacs & Red Lick Mountain.
Kelly plays a Gibson F-9 Mandolin, a Glaesel Fiddle, and a Martin D-16 Guitar.
Kelly is officially sponsored by Ohio Valley Guitars and plays one of their brand new hand crafted fiddles.
Stanley Efaw Teaching: Fiddle & Banjo |
The newest member of McCoy Grass, Stanley Efaw, comes from Akron, OH, where he learned how to play with his father and grandfather in the established band, the Bluegrass Mountaineers. At only 19-years-old, he has already toured most of the country with his father, Larry Efaw, and other established bands, including Ralph Stanley II and the Clinch Mountain Boys, the Wildwood Valley Boys, Sammy Adkins, Vince Combs, the Whittaker Brothers, Lillie Mae, and more. At the young age of 7-years-old, Stanley had a total hip replacement and learned how to play all the bluegrass instruments while laying on the flat of his back in a hospital bed in a full body cast. He also just graduated from Coventry High School in June 2008. We are very proud to have Stanley playing with McCoy Grass!

She is now learning how to play the fiddle and banjo from her sister. She sings lead, tenor, and baritone vocals and provides guitar and mandolin work. She, too writes some songs for the band.
