THE BAND
Kelly McCoymandolin / guitar / fiddle / lead vocals / harmony vocals |
Kelly is 17-years-old and has been playing bluegrass since she was 11-years-old. Kelly has always been exposed to bluegrass music ever since she was born. At age 2-years-old in her car seat, she would sing along to Alison Krauss cassette tapes. Her parents always took the girls to see bluegrass acts, including a couple visits to the Grand Ole Opry and even the Gaithers' Homecoming Gospel show at a young age. When Kelly was in the sixth grade, she started taking fiddle lessons, but then switched to mandolin two months later. In her first year of playing, she also learned how to play the guitar, then expanded her talents to the banjo and the bass. On March 28, 2008, she acheived her life-long dream and sang on stage with her long-time hero, Rhonda Vincent, who Kelly's voice is always compared to. Kelly provides lead & tenor vocals, and mandolin, guitar, and banjo work for the band. She has also composed many orginal songs that the band performs. Some of Kelly's influences are: Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Bill Monroe, Doyle Lawson, Jimmy Martin, the Osborne Brothers, Alison Krauss, and Ricky Skaggs. Kelly has sang on stage as a special guest with Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Honi Deaton & Dream, Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Bobby & Dean Osborne, James King, Sammy Adkins & the Sandy Hook Mountain Boys, Vince Combs & Shadetree Bluegrass, The Dixie Ryders, and Joe Isaacs & Red Lick Mountain.

Jim Chatfieldbass / harmony vocals |
Jim Chatfield has been playing bass with McCoy for over 4 years. He comes from New Carlisle, OH. Kelly and Katelyn met him when he was playing with another local band and asked him to play on their CD after they heard how good he was. Jim has many nicknames, including the famous "Joe Dirt" (from a bad haircut a couple of years ago) and the recent nickname from Kelly, "Show-off!" Jim started his musical career playing the drums for Tecumseh High School and later switched to the bass. He has played many different types of music during his life, but bluegrass is his favorite! He is the bass player on all of McCoy Grass' CDs. He also provides bass and low tenor harmony vocals. We are proud to have Jim Chatfield with McCoy Grass!
